Township® celebrates the creativity & spirit of South African township life. Our fair trade bags & accessories feature an exclusive range of vibrantly patterned prints which are lovingly handcrafted in Cape Town, largely by independent sewing co-ops in Khayelitsha and Manenberg. We currently support 7 co-ops – in Khayelitsha and Manenberg on the Cape Flats – providing work for around 60 women and positively affecting 7 to 10 people for every job created. Our fashion range is made of environmentally-friendly fabrics, we use natural (jute and cotton) or fabric made of recycled plastic bottles (PET). The recycled PET fabric is a 100% locally made product. The bottles are collected from rubbish dumps, taken to PET Recycling Company and then processed into a fibre. Our supplier, Romatex Home Textiles receives this fibre, which is then woven into a strong durable fabric.
